A day as a builders labourer...

Sue & I had 2 days off work, yesterday and today. Yesterday we drove around Cheshire looking at stables and stable manufactuers and today I went down to site and helped in moving a 16 tonne pile of gravel ! The garage is now ready for sand, membrane, metal, a building control inspection and then concrete, the driveway is now fairly level all to the end and is at the correct height in relation to the garage (we will put the pretty gravel down when all building work is finished. Had an amazing team of workers there today and between 4 of us the 16 tonnes is all in the relavent place and has been wacked down, amazing day and we both think its looking like a garage now a huge one at that the garage is 6.4 x 6.11 and the rear store is 6.4 x 2.845 so i'd hope we wouldnt be short of space..... !! Yeah cant wait to use it.

Bricks to the damp course level

So 4 lots of concrete commons, 2 lots of cheap red bricks, this is upto damp course level. When complete all around the garage outer and inner cavity the hardcore will be spread, ground prepped for concrete, then building inspector will come and check it and we can get the concrete floor in upto the brick height that you can see. From there up the garage will be built of the normal finishing bricks and inner blocks above the damp course.

Pics as promised

So here we have another delivery...... the rear wall backing onto the field....... and the front right corner and Im told it needs this many spirit levels if your doing the job properly... I cant argue with that answer really and have witnessed every single brick does get checked to make sure its 100% level so we should get a good build. Top marks to Andy the builder for his attention to details from us !

Concrete delivery...

.....was yesterday, the 34 tonne truck was enjoying itself so much it tried to hide in a hole of hardcore. We kept it above ground with wood on the drive. Then when we got the footings filled we were short on the delivery so he went and came back, lucking with Andy, Alan, Sue, delivery man and a little bit from Kieran and the Landy's headlamps illuminating the site we got finished in the dark. Builder starts on Monday !! oh and when we removed the fence around the garage site the digger man leveled the site and stole a corner of the neighbours land so we have to come up with a smart idea to get the land back and fenced again but its about 3ft higher than our drive so will need securing and back filling at some point. Lucking the owners of said land are very understanding and have helped stop me worrying about it, back to site later or tomorrow to do a little tidying and thinking about fence locations.
